A “Star Image” is very often used on the front of a digipak as most pop stars have an identity or a persona that is based on their physical appearance and behaviors.

Example of a “Star Image”:

Jimi Hendrix has been the Star Image for his band “The Jimi Hendrix Experience” for the whole of their career (until his death). His face would be on all their album covers and on all of their posters and billboard adverts.
Although people used to admire the whole band, meaning the other musicians as well, it was the face of Jimi Hendrix that made everyone realize that what they were looking at was a “Jimi Hendrix Experience” album cover or a simple advert on a newspaper.

Nowadays, stars are able to use their images to promote and advertise themselves over a large range of media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
They result in a very fast recognition of the artist and of his/their work.

I think that a main rule for the main photo of the digipak needs to be that the star image (the singer) is performing while the picture is taken. It could be him singing or him playing the bass guitar.
